Setting Lake Fire Brigade Volunteers

Thinking of joining the Setting Lake Fire Brigade?

All volunteer fire fighters are required:

  • to have a cell phone,

  • to be on call as scheduled,

  • to assist with firefighting in all types of weather,

  • to attend at least two fire practices,

  • to be proficient in the use of departmental fire pumps.

As a volunteer fire fighter, you may claim Canada Revenue Agency’s $3000 tax credit if you meet the following conditions:

  • You were a volunteer firefighter during the year.

  • You completed at least 200 hours of eligible volunteer firefighting services in the year.

CRA may ask you to provide certification from the fire department to confirm the number of hours of eligible services you performed so the department tracks your service.

Eligible services include:

  • responding to and being on call for firefighting and related emergency calls;

  • attending meetings held by the fire department;

  • participating in required training related to preventing or suppressing fires.
