Low Wildfire Danger Level and Wet Spring Result in Deadline Extension for Rooftop Sprinkler Incentive Program Rebate

The deadline to apply for the rooftop sprinkler system grant has been extended to September 30, 2024.

Manitoba Wildfire Services advises that the wildfire danger level across the province, including the Setting Lake area is low. Exceptions are the Interlake and the east side of Lake Winnipeg around Berens River and Little Grand Rapids, where the danger level is moderate. Currently there are four active wildfires in the province. There have been 57 wildfires to date. Fifty-three have been caused by people. Manitoba’s 20-year average to June 22 is 118.

For Setting Lake, cool weather and above average rainfall in May and June helped lower the wildfire danger level. May’s average monthly rainfall is 35 mm or 1.4 inches; actual rainfall was 50 mm – approximately 2 inches. June’s average rainfall for the entire month is 62 mm or 2.5 inches; to date the Setting Lake area has received 80 mm or 3.2 inches.

The low wildfire danger level allows us to extend the deadline, giving cottagers who have not yet heard about the grant more time to find out what they need to do to protect their property, and purchase and install equipment. For more information about the grant, and/or to complete an application form, contact Jeff Henry at firechief@settinglake.ca or Rick Morris at deputychief@settinglake.ca.
